“Sherry is a veteran of the real estate industry and has an outstanding investing track record in real estate securities,” Mr. Howard-Johnson said in a prepared statement about the hire. “I look forward to working closely with Sherry to assemble a superior team that will be critical to the foundation and future success of BlackRock’s new Real Estate Securities offering.”

Ms. Rexroad joins from Aviva Investors’ Global Listed Real Estate Securities Team, where she was the senior portfolio manager, REITs—Americas. She said she chose to join BlackRock because she thinks “its fundamental real estate business, coupled with its equity investment capability, makes it exceptionally well-positioned to develop a successful real estate securities platform.”

Her first priorities, she added, will include attracting talent and delivering strong product offerings to clients.

Ms. Rexroad’s background also includes stints at ING Clarion Real Estate Securities and AEW Capital Management.
