Birch Coffee has inked a deal for 1,200 square feet of prime Upper West Side commercial real estate.

The new space will be Birch Coffee’s second New York location following its first inside the Gershwin Hotel at 5 East 27th Street. The space features boldly painted walls, a popular second floor library, and often sightings of Chelsea Clinton who noted that it was her favorite coffee in a recent piece in Vogue.

“For its second Manhattan location, Birch Coffee required a location that was high-profile and high-traffic – but with a feel that embodied neighborhood and community,” said broker Kyle Allen of Thor High Street Advisors in a prepared statement. “The Upper West Side’s laid back, sophisticated vibe, specifically the Columbus Avenue area just steps from the Park, makes this an ideal match.”

The coffeehouse and neighborhood hang-out, wedged between 96th and 97th Street on Columbus, will include a craft beer bar serving locally harvest beer and a community library similar to their first shop.

Birch Coffee was initially found in 2009 with an emphasis on sustainability, locally-grown produce and harvesting, and green working practices. As an extension of those principles, Birch Coffee donates a percentage of their sales to the Falling Whistles, an organization campaigning for peace in the Congo, and Bidawee, a non-kill shelter in Midtown that promotes loving and long-term relationships between people and companion animals.
